Bishop Francis Xavier Ford, M.M.

About Bishop Ford & the Guild

The cause of canonization for Bishop Francis Xavier Ford, M.M. has taken on special meaning in the Diocese of Brooklyn. As the birthplace and foundation where he learned about his Catholic faith as a student of St. Joseph’s School in Prospect Heights, Bishop Ford was known for his strong love and value for other cultures. He died as a prisoner in a Communist prison for his devotion to God.

The Diocese of Brooklyn kicked off its efforts to have Bishop Ford proclaimed a saint. After a preliminary study, the Vatican has named Bishop Ford as a Servant of God, worthy of consideration for sainthood. The Guild’s purpose is to honor his faithfulness to the Lord and make others aware of the depths he took to follow God and do His will.

A formal portrait of Francis X. Ford was taken for his appointment as Prefect Apostolic of Kaying, 1929.
